Neville Goes Noir: Matthew Lewis Stars in Channel 5 Thriller ‘The Fortune’

Neville Longbottom is trading Herbology for hard secrets. Matthew Lewis, who grew up onscreen as Neville across the Harry Potter films, has landed a leading role in The Fortune, a new four-part psychological thriller for Channel 5.

He stars opposite Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark) and Denis Lawson. Tomlinson plays Amanda Blakefield, a wife and mother whose settled life is upended when she inherits a vast sum from a man she has never even heard of — pulling her into the long-buried secrets of the Worrall family. Lewis plays her husband, Jimmy.

In interviews around the launch, Lewis has pitched the drama as a story about what money really does to ordinary people, noting how relevant that feels at a time when plenty of “financially normal” households are struggling to find their footing. It’s a meatier, knottier role than fans might expect from him — and that seems to be exactly the appeal.

Filmed in North East England, the series is built from four 60-minute episodes designed to be devoured in a single sitting. A release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s expected to land on screens before long. It’s the latest step in a steady post-Hogwarts career that has lately included All Creatures Great and Small.
