Universal Is Quietly Handing Out Free Express Passes for Hagrid’s Coaster — Here’s the Catch

Accio, shorter wait times? Sort of. Express access has quietly resurfaced at Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal’s Islands of Adventure — but before you reach for your wallet, there’s a catch worth knowing.

Why Express Left Hagrid’s in the First Place

Universal removed the wildly popular coaster from its Universal Express program on July 1, 2026, calling it an operational change meant to improve the flow of the experience for all guests. Express had reportedly contributed to longer standby waits and added congestion at what was already one of the resort’s busiest attractions.

Since then, standby — with an on-again, off-again single rider line — has been the only way aboard.

The Catch: You Still Can’t Buy It

Now, Inside the Magic reports that Express access has returned — in a much more limited form. Universal has not restored regular Express at Hagrid’s, and guests still cannot purchase Universal Express expecting to use it there.

Instead, Team Members can hand-select guests and give them complimentary single-use Express passes, sending those lucky few through the Express queue. Think of it as a surprise guest-service gesture rather than a paid skip-the-line option.

One recent guest described stepping off the Hogwarts Express at Islands of Adventure when an employee walked up and handed them two Express tickets for Hagrid’s. They were on the ride in under 20 minutes, and called it a moment that “felt like a magical moment.”

A Look Inside the Forbidden Forest

For anyone who hasn’t made the trip yet, here’s what waits at the end of that queue — whether you get there by surprise pass or the old-fashioned way.

Could Regular Express Return?

That’s an open question. If wait times eventually settle, Universal could reconsider adding the coaster back to the standard Express lineup — Jurassic World VelociCoaster went years without Express before it was added. A more controlled option, such as a single-attraction pass with an assigned return window, has also been floated.

To be clear, though, that’s speculation rather than news: Universal has announced nothing of the sort. For now, don’t buy Express for Hagrid’s — but keep an eye out for a Team Member bearing a ticket.
