‘Sorcerer’s Stone’ Magical Movie Mode Is Leaving HBO Max on June 30
Better summon a Time-Turner, Potterheads — one of HBO Max’s hidden Wizarding World gems is about to vanish.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: Magical Movie Mode is leaving HBO Max in the U.S. on June 30, 2026. To be clear right up front: it’s the special interactive edition of the first film that’s expiring, not the movie itself. The eight standard Harry Potter films are staying put on the service.
Magical Movie Mode is an enhanced way to experience Sorcerer’s Stone, first released to mark the film’s 20th anniversary. As the movie plays, it layers on pop-up trivia, spell incantations, creature and magical-artifact facts, deleted scenes, and director’s commentary from Chris Columbus — think VH1’s Pop-Up Video, but for a trip through Hogwarts.
Planning a farewell rewatch? Make a night of it. Warner Bros. put out an official 20th-anniversary watch party kit designed to go alongside a Magical Movie Mode screening, with a companion game where you score points for answering trivia and spotting the Golden Snitch in scenes where it shouldn’t be. The pack also includes printable decorations, a spot-the-prop checklist, Harry Potter charades, themed recipes, coloring sheets, and even a build-your-own Hogwarts castle craft. If you’d like to hang onto the bonus version after June 30, it’s available to buy as a digital download on Amazon and Fandango at Home, and it lives on the 20th-anniversary Blu-ray and DVD. The regular Sorcerer’s Stone, meanwhile, isn’t going anywhere on HBO Max — and HBO’s brand-new Harry Potter series arrives on the platform this Christmas Day.
