HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series Is Casting Colin Creevey for Season 2

Hogwarts’ most enthusiastic shutterbug is about to get a new face. HBO’s Harry Potter series is casting Colin Creevey for Season 2, with casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann reportedly out to agents in search of a young actor to fill the role.

Auditions are already underway, and there’s talk of recalls among the hopefuls. No one has landed the part yet — this is an active search rather than a done deal — but whoever wins it could be in for a long stay at Hogwarts: Creevey recurs across six of J.K. Rowling’s seven books, and the series is setting out to adapt every one.

Fans will remember Creevey as the camera-toting, Muggle-born Gryffindor who first appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, forever trailing Harry around the castle in hopes of a photo. In the books he later joins the resistance against Dolores Umbridge and fights in the Battle of Hogwarts. Hugh Mitchell played him in the 2002 film, though the character didn’t return for the rest of the movie series.

Season 2 is expected to begin filming in the UK this fall. It’s also where Ginny Weasley is being recast, after Gracie Cochrane stepped away from the role — her family said she was deeply grateful for her time in the Harry Potter world.
