A Marauders Series Was Reportedly in Development at Warner Bros. Before the Reboot Killed It
Somewhere in a timeline we didn’t get, Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs had their own show.
Knight Edge Media published an exclusive report on August 17 claiming that Warner Bros. had a live-action Marauders series in development at HBO Max in the early 2020s — a 1970s-set story following James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew during the years the films only ever gestured at. According to the outlet’s source, the project was killed when the studio pivoted to the full reboot instead.
What the report claims
- The series was set in the 1970s and centered on the four Marauders
- A full writers’ room was assembled for season one
- A series bible was created
- Three complete episodes were written
- CEO David Zaslav pulled the plug without notice in favor of a total reboot
- Some writers reportedly only learned the show was dead when the remake was announced in 2023
The one piece of this with an established paper trail: The Hollywood Reporter did report in 2021 that Warner Bros. was weighing multiple Wizarding World series for streaming. Which ones, and how far any of them got, was never detailed publicly.
Take the rest with the usual caveat that this is a single-source report built on an anonymous insider, and Warner Bros. has not commented. It has since been picked up by ComicBook, MovieWeb, Yahoo and others, but every one of those traces back to the same Knight Edge story — wide pickup is not the same thing as corroboration. Knight Edge also floated the idea that HBO’s series could work Marauders flashbacks into its longer runtimes, and flagged that as pure speculation on their part. It is.
