Angelina Johnson Star Asha Soetan Signals HBO’s “Harry Potter” Season 2 Is Now Shooting
Term doesn’t officially start until September 1 — but it looks like a few students have already turned up early.
Asha Soetan, who plays Gryffindor Chaser Angelina Johnson in HBO’s Harry Potter, shared an Instagram story this week captioned “POV: back on set today with some exciting scenes but sworn to secrecy!” She didn’t say what she was filming, and she didn’t need to: Season 1 wrapped in the spring, which makes a return to set the clearest signal yet that Season 2 has started rolling.
The update spread through the fandom before any outlet picked it up, with the series subreddit among the first to flag it:
Filming for Season 2 appears to have begun, according to the actress who plays Angelina Johnson.

A quick note on what this is. HBO has not officially announced that Season 2 is in production, and no one affiliated with the series has confirmed it. A cast member’s Instagram story is a strong indicator, not an announcement — treat it that way until the network says otherwise.
It’s also worth pushing back on the framing going around that this means filming has been “moved up.” It hasn’t. Production listings reported back in July already pegged Season 2 for an August 2026 start, so cameras rolling this month is the schedule working exactly as planned — the aggressive turnaround was always the point, given how quickly the young cast is growing.
Where Things Stand
- Season 1 premiere: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Christmas Day, December 25, 2026, on HBO Max
- Season 2 adapts: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Filming location: Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, Watford — the same base as Season 1
- Showrunners: Francesca Gardiner, now joined by Jon Brown as co-showrunner to manage the overlapping schedules
- Core cast: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, Alastair Stout as Ron, John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Nick Frost as Hagrid
If Soetan’s “exciting scenes” are Quidditch scenes, that’s a genuinely interesting tell — Angelina, Katie Bell and Alicia Spinnet were barely more than background in the films, and a season with room to breathe could finally give the Gryffindor team an actual bench.
