‘It Is Great’: HBO Boss Casey Bloys Says He’s Seen All of ‘Harry Potter’ Season 1
The first verdict on HBO’s Harry Potter is in, and it comes from the man who runs the network.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, says he has watched the show’s entire first season. He was speaking to Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw on stage at the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Shaw closed the interview by asking whether Harry Potter would be the most-watched show of the year. Bloys declined to set expectations, then offered this:
“I have seen the entire season, and it is great, and I’m very, very happy.”
He added that he expects a lot of people around the world to be watching on Christmas Day.
You can watch the exchange in Bloomberg’s video of the interview, starting at the 28:53 mark:
A quick note on what this is: it’s the head of the network praising his own show, not an independent review. Still, it’s the first verdict on the complete season we’ve heard from inside HBO.
In the same interview, Bloys hinted at how HBO Max and Paramount+ could sit together once the two companies merge, which we covered in our Skydance explainer. He has also addressed how long the wait for Season 2 will be.
Where things stand:
- Premiere: Season 1, based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, debuts December 25, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max
- Cast: Dominic McLaughlin (Harry), Arabella Stanton (Hermione) and Alastair Stout (Ron)
- Behind the camera: showrunner Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing
- Season 2: adapting Chamber of Secrets, now filming
