Evanna Lynch Is ‘Happy’ for the New Harry Potter Cast: Luna Lovegood Star Will Be Watching This Christmas
Luna Lovegood is cheering on the next generation. Evanna Lynch, who played the dreamy Ravenclaw across the Harry Potter films, has confirmed she’ll be watching the new HBO Max series this Christmas — and she’s happy to see a fresh young cast take over Hogwarts.
Speaking at the Cork Midsummer Festival, where she’s currently starring in the stage play Pool (No Water), the Louth actress was warm about the torch being passed. She admitted she’ll be “a little envious” watching a new cast step into the world that shaped her own career, but said the stronger feeling is happiness for them.
The series hands the wands to Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stout as Ron, leading HBO’s new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novels. Lynch, who has spoken about the books being a refuge for her as a shy child, said there is still plenty of the story left to explore on screen.
That extra space is exactly what she’s excited about. The films, she noted, were boxed in by their two-hour runtime and had to stick to the essential plot. A long-form series, by contrast, finally has room to wander into the corners of the story the movies were forced to skip.
The new Harry Potter series premieres on HBO Max on Christmas Day. The Cork Midsummer Festival, meanwhile, runs through 21 June.
