Evanna Lynch Wants a Challenge: Luna Lovegood Star Dives Into a New Stage Role
More than twenty years after she first floated onto screens as Luna Lovegood, Evanna Lynch is still instantly recognisable to Potter fans — and she’s ready to be tested in ways the franchise never quite managed.
Lynch was just 15 when she joined Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but her total screen time across the whole series adds up to only about seventeen minutes. As she put it in a candid new interview, a “frustrated creative” part of her still feels she hasn’t been fully stretched as an actor. Creatively, she says, the Luna chapter is closed.
Her next move is a bold one. Lynch is starring in Mark Ravenhill’s Pool (No Water) at the Cork Midsummer Festival — an intense, highly physical play staged inside a disused swimming pool beneath the city’s Metropole Hotel, digging into friendship, jealousy, self-doubt and ambition. She’s thrown herself into the physicality of it, drawing on years of dance and aerial circus training (and, by her own cheerful admission, a few skinned knees in rehearsal).

It’s a striking turn for someone who walked away from acting altogether in 2023, frustrated at being boxed in — before a love of fantasy novels reignited the spark and pulled her back. Next on the vision board, she says, is television, and the chance to live with a character over the long haul.
Pool (No Water) runs from June 12 to 27. Will you be following Evanna Lynch’s next chapter beyond Hogwarts? Let us know in the comments!
