H-E-B’s New Harry Potter Ice Creams Sort You Into a House
Florean Fortescue would approve. H-E-B México has put a set of Harry Potter ice creams on shelves to mark the 25th anniversary of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” — and the gimmick is better than a simple house-themed tub.
The color is hidden until you scoop. Each container looks unremarkable on top, but dig in and the ice cream underneath reveals a Hogwarts house color — a sorting ceremony you perform with a spoon. It’s the same trick Krispy Kreme Japan is pulling with its surprise-filled Sorting Hat doughnut, and it turns a freezer-aisle purchase into a small event.
H-E-B leaned into exactly that in its announcement, asking shoppers to tag the supermarket and share which house they got.

What the label says: the packaging describes the product as a cream-flavored ice cream with one assorted flavor (sabor a crema con 1 sabor surtido) — which is why there’s no flavor list to hand out. The assortment is the point: what you get is part of the surprise, in keeping with the house-color reveal.
Beyond that, H-E-B hasn’t published a price or how long the run lasts, and the ice creams aren’t listed on the H-E-B México website — a search there currently returns no Harry Potter ice cream at all. The announcement came through the supermarket’s own social channels rather than a press release, so this is an in-store, see-it-to-know-it item for now.
For fans outside Mexico: this is an H-E-B México exclusive, and ice cream being what it is, there’s no import workaround — it’s strictly a “if you’re there, check the freezer aisle” situation. H-E-B’s Mexican accounts are the place to watch for flavor details or word of a wider run.
