Harry Potter’s New Mrs. Weasley Teases a Bigger Season 2 Role

The Burrow is in good hands. Katherine Parkinson, 48 — beloved for The IT Crowd and Rivals — is pulling on Molly Weasley’s knitted jumpers for HBO’s new Harry Potter series, taking over the role Julie Walters made famous across the films.

In a new interview with People, Parkinson opened up about filming Season 1 and the children she’ll be sharing the screen with for years to come. She called the young cast “completely enchanting,” adding that it’s a relief they’re so lovely given how long she expects to be working alongside them.

A few highlights:

  • Her Season 1 role is fairly small, but she teased she has much more to do in Season 2.
  • She’s clearly enjoying herself — right down to her wig and costume.
  • Parkinson was spotted filming at King’s Cross station last August with the young actors playing her on-screen children.

The full Weasley brood for Season 1 includes Alastair Stout as Ron, Ruari Spooner as Percy, twins Tristan and Gabriel Harland as Fred and George, and Gracie Cochrane as Ginny — though Cochrane is set to be recast for Season 2 after stepping away from the role.

As for the bigger picture, HBO has confirmed that Season 2 — adapting Chamber of Secrets — is already being written, and that the rollout won’t be annual, since the production is simply too massive; the team is keen to avoid long gaps while the young cast grows up.
