MINISO’s New Harry Potter Blind Box Hides Two Characters Inside One Phone Box

Every witch and wizard knows a red telephone box is never just a telephone box. MINISO has teased a new Harry Potter blind box series built on exactly that idea — and there is a genuinely clever piece of misdirection hiding inside each one.

Every box in the series is a miniature red phone box with glazed panels, a Hogwarts crest on the frame, a braided cord loop on top and a character nameplate where the telephone sign would normally sit. Inside, a candlelit Hogwarts corridor sets the scene behind the figure.

The Mirror Trick

Here is the part worth slowing down for. A mirror runs diagonally through the inside of each phone box. The figure standing in there is not a complete sculpt — it is half a character, and the mirror does the rest, reflecting that half into what reads as a whole figure. Turn the box around to the opposite face and the trick runs again, this time on somebody else entirely.

So one box holds two. Look through one side and Harry is standing in the corridor; turn it around and Hedwig is there instead. Freeze MINISO’s footage and you can spot the seam running straight down the middle of Hedwig’s face and along Fawkes’ beak — that is the giveaway, and it is the whole reason the pairs work.

Who Is Inside

Six phone boxes have surfaced so far, each named on its plaque, and each one pairing a character with their companion:

  • Harry Potter and Hedwig, who turns up in a Gryffindor scarf
  • Ron Weasley and Scabbers
  • Hermione Granger and Crookshanks
  • Rubeus Hagrid and Fang
  • Albus Dumbledore and Fawkes
  • Draco Malfoy and the ferret

That last one is the wink. Draco’s other half is not a pet at all — it is the white ferret Mad-Eye Moody bounced him around as in Goblet of Fire, which turns his flip from a portrait into a punchline. Fans spotted it immediately, and it is currently the most-liked reaction under the post.

Even the packaging plays along: the outer box is styled as a thick bundle of Hogwarts acceptance letters, the kind that once came down the Dursleys’ chimney by the hundred.

What We Still Do Not Know

A quick note on what this is: a tease and nothing more. MINISO has not announced a product name, a price, a release date, or which countries will get it. The company’s Harry Potter range already runs to hundreds of products and has rolled out across a long list of markets, so a wide release is plausible — but none of that is confirmed until MINISO says so, and the comments are full of fans in Brazil, India, Peru and Italy asking exactly that question.

Which pairing would you want most, and who should be in the next six? Let us know in the comments, and don’t forget to follow along for more Harry Potter news.
