Tartan Takes Over Hogwarts: Japan’s Mahou Dokoro Debuts Four-House Autumn Collection
Nothing says “back to Hogwarts weather” quite like a bit of Scottish tartan — and Japan’s official Harry Potter shop just leaned all the way in. Benelic’s Harry Potter Mahou Dokoro stores are rolling out a new autumn collection that wraps the four Hogwarts houses in traditional tartan check, spanning convertible shoulder bags, house-animal lapel pins, and everyday socks. The line goes live on the Mahou Dokoro online shop on Wednesday, August 5, with in-store availability from Friday, August 7.
The whole collection is built around a simple, very seasonal idea: take the traditional tartan of Britain and Scotland — the Harry Potter films’ spiritual home turf — and thread each of the four house identities through it. The result is a set of twelve pieces (four houses across three product types) styled for classical autumn-and-winter dressing, the kind of thing meant for afternoon tea and wandering brick-lined streets.
Here’s what’s in the range.
Boston Shoulder Bags — ¥7,700 each (about $52)
The centerpiece of the line. Each bag uses a British-style tartan in its house colors, with a foil-stamped faux-leather patch of the house’s symbolic animal on the front and a woven house-crest label sewn inside. It’s a gusseted, wide-mouth Boston-bag shape with carry handles, and the shoulder strap is removable — so it converts from a shoulder bag into a handbag. Available in all four houses.
Lapel Pins — ¥3,300 each (about $22)
The most detailed piece in the collection. Each pin pairs a cameo-brooch-style pin of the house animal with a second pin shaped like that house’s founder’s relic — Gryffindor’s Sword, Slytherin’s Locket, Ravenclaw’s Diadem, and Hufflepuff’s Cup — joined together by a delicate chain. The relic pins are finished with rhinestones and engraving, and the chain detaches so each pin can be worn on its own. Meant for a shirt collar, a jacket lapel, or even a beret.
Tartan Socks — ¥1,780 each (about $12)
The easy everyday entry point. Tartan-check socks in autumn tones with black ribbing and a single embroidered house animal as the accent, sized 23–25cm. Designed to pair with the bag and pins for a head-to-toe house look.
A Little Bonus
Through December 31, any Mahou Dokoro purchase of ¥3,300 or more (online included) comes with one randomly selected sticker from a set of eight, while supplies last.

Mahou Dokoro is a Japan-only retailer, so there’s no direct international shipping storefront — but the collection is very gettable if you’re determined. The online shop is the fastest route the day items drop, and a proxy or forwarding service (the usual suspects for Japan-exclusive goods) can get these across borders.
