HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Shoot Closes Roads Into Latimer, Leaving Buckinghamshire Villagers ‘Cut Off’
Muggles in one corner of the English countryside are finding out what it’s like to live next door to the Wizarding World, and it involves a lot of road signs.
HBO’s Harry Potter series has been filming in Latimer, a small village in the Chess Valley in Buckinghamshire, England, since Monday, September 28. Residents were told earlier this month that Plum Jam Productions, the Warner Bros. Discovery company behind the show, would be shooting there, with restrictions in place through Wednesday, September 30.

The biggest disruption came on Tuesday, when every route into the village centre was closed. Residents were issued permits letting them drive through at two set times, 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. BST, on Monday and Wednesday.
Local teacher Candice Adams told the BBC the closures had left her “cut off” and made getting to work harder, though she said the crew had tried to accommodate residents. Another villager said she wouldn’t leave her home at all while filming was under way.
Buckinghamshire Council told The Telegraph it approved the temporary road closure after its usual notification and consultation process, and that the production had worked with residents and local businesses to limit disruption where it could.
What’s Being Filmed?
Nobody official has said. Take this part with the usual caveat that it is unconfirmed: fan account Wizarding World Direct reported locals saying the production had set up fairground stalls in the village centre, and clips shared on X by @DominicMupdates show village-fete-style set dressing in several spots.

HBO hasn’t confirmed which scenes are being shot there, or even which season they’re for. Season 2, adapting Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, is the one currently in production, based at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire.

It isn’t the first time the shoot has ruffled a neighbourhood. The Telegraph notes that locals near an earlier location shoot in June said they hadn’t been consulted before cameras rolled.
Where Things Stand
- Premiere: Season 1, based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, debuts December 25, 2026 on HBO and HBO Max
- The plan: one season per book, with Season 2 adapting Chamber of Secrets
- Cast: Dominic McLaughlin (Harry), Arabella Stanton (Hermione) and Alastair Stout (Ron)
- Behind the camera: showrunner Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing
