HBO Opens New UK Casting Call for Ginny Weasley in ‘Harry Potter’ Series
Hogwarts is looking for its next Ginny Weasley — and this time, the search is wide open. Casting director Lucy Bevan has posted a new UK open casting call for a child to play Ginny Weasley in HBO’s Harry Potter series, following Gracie Cochrane’s decision to step away from the role after season one.
The call, shared on Bevan’s official casting Instagram, is open to children aged 10–12 who are UK residents. Applications must go through Cast It Talent and be submitted by a parent or legal guardian — the casting team notes it’s the only official way to apply. Anyone who previously self-taped or auditioned for Ginny is still in consideration and doesn’t need to resubmit.
This follows last month’s news that Cochrane, who played Ginny in season one, would not be returning. Her family said in a statement that she was “deeply grateful” to Bevan and the production team, while HBO confirmed it supported the decision. Season 2 is expected to begin filming in the UK this fall, with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone set to premiere on HBO Max this Christmas.
