British gossip newsletter PopBitch told subscribers in its latest weekly email that Peter Serafinowicz is the name being whispered for Peeves the Poltergeist in HBO’s Harry Potter series. The newsletter framed it as a leak, adding that the production is trying to keep the casting under wraps.
PopBitch couldn’t resist a dig at the actor’s tongue-twister of a surname, signing off: “Try saying that after a few pints.”
That Peeves is in the show at all isn’t in doubt — HBO confirmed his return in the Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic documentary, and concept art surfaced online back in April. The poltergeist was famously cut from the 2001 film, where the late Rik Mayall had been cast and even filmed scenes before they landed on the cutting-room floor.
